Pastoral health is not pastoral perfection.

The church will not be healthier than their pastor.

The first person to ask is your spouse and he/she may not see the whole picture.

Burnout is more circumstantial while depression is more often clinical.

Burnout is more often physical in nature and depression is more often emotionally/spiritual in nature.

Clinical Depression is quite common among driven leaders.

There are several levels of Clinical Depression just as there are different kinds of cancer.

After Mark Dance was diagnosed and shared this info with his church and family and received help he experienced his best years of ministry.

Mark was overwhelmed with the positive response from his church when he shared with them his situation.

We need to be okay with not being okay, but it’s not okay to stay there.

DJ Carney – “Two things have helped me with depression.

1.  Being with pastors and talking shop.
2.  Being with pastors and not talking shop.”

Barna research says 1 out of 4 pastors will face burnout.

Mark Dance – “If you have a pastor or a mentor pouring into your life, consider yourself fortunate.  If not, consider yourself at risk.”

Top three issues for pastors to be constantly watching:

  1. Focusing upon your marriage
  2. Monitoring your physical and mental health
  3. Learning to forgive those who have hurt you.
