Children’s Camp Sets New Record The first day of a three day “Day Camp” the temperature barely made it to 80 degrees. That was a record low for the high temperature on July 28.
It was a “cool” day and the rain did not put that much of a damper on the activities. There were still outdoor games, archery, fishing, crafts, gaga ball, missions, Bible study and the Snack Shak. Because of COVID-19, none of the children spent the night and we had three different groups of kids on each of the three days. Pastor Jr. Pratt of the Cushing Indian Church along with his family, were a hit! They presented a Native American Dance each evening, followed by Jr. speaking to the children.
Camp Lela continues to go strong even in the midst of a pandemic. Thanks to our pastors/camp directors, Christi Lame and her cooking crew and Camp Caretaker, Richard Brewster. Of course, there were a host of sponsors, Bible Study Leaders and others who help to make Camp Lela a memorable experience for our children.
We had twelve individuals from eleven churches scheduled for a vision trip to Calgary, Canada this month that we had to postpone. However, we have planned a Mission Trip to Calgary this summer if the travel restrictions are lifted. This is an Association Mission trip which means we want individuals from several churches to go with us.
Pastor Jon Syverson from Freedom Hill Baptist in Mannford will be leading the trip. The dates are July 11-18 and we will be helping with a sports camp and working to strengthen community relations. We will be partnering with Junction Church, which is a Canadian National Baptist Mission in the suburb of Mahogany in Calgary. A good number to take would be twelve. Contact Pastor Jon or Scott Morie for more information.
Richard, our Camp Caretaker, has been hard at work on this off season project, and it’s nearly complete. He completely gutted and remodeled the dorm, built a new wall between the dorm and the bathrooms and sheetrocked the ceilings.
Each bathroom stall now has new partitions and each shower has a changing area. Everything got a fresh coat of paint and looks so much more bright and cheerful.
We think it is a great improvement and campers will have an enjoyable stay.
Richard is thankful to still be able to work on these projects during this time. We are thankful for your support that makes these improvements possible. Our hope for the future is to have all the bathrooms upgraded.
This is a phenomenal mission experience—Cimarron Association has committed to a partnership with Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Six CBA people went on a vision trip to Calgary in October 2019 and now our second vision trip is scheduled for April 20-23.
This is not a mission trip in that we will not be doing mission work; it is a vision trip where we will be meeting SBC Mission Pastors and discovering mission needs. If you have any interest or questions, please call Scott Morie at 918-645-6644. We will need to finalize the details soon.
Two ministries that are expanding are Disaster Relief and Camp Lela. The DR Ministry has been blessed recently with two new trailers, one of which is the only Disaster Relief Laundry trailer in the state and the other is a fairly new Flood Recovery Trailer. Because of those gifts along with our Block Party Trailer, we need an additional and larger trailer barn. We have an estimated cost of $60,000 for the new barn and the first gift of $6,000 has been given. We will not use DR funds for this new barn, but we are praying for individuals who have a heart for Disaster Relief. If you are interested in learning more about this need, call Scott Morie at 918-695-6644.
Camp Lela is in desperate need for a new modern, year-round cabin. The Cimarron Association has unanimously approved to begin the process to build it. We have a beautiful concept drawing of the new cabin and an estimated cost of $500,000. The great news is $50,000 has already been given.
